Collection: Viking Ax
Our designs at Drakka are influenced by historic medieval attire. A Viking ax was one of the most powerful and effective offensive weapons a Viking warrior could possess. Viking warriors primarily wielded the majority of their swords with one hand while simultaneously holding a shield with the other. In addition to being a weapon, a sword frequently represented wealth and power.
Excellent costume Viking axes are ideal for theatrical performances, Halloween parties, costume plays, and a variety of other occasions. This weapon is perfect for Renaissance fairs, backyard brawls, LARP events, and historical recreations.
Skeggx (from Old Norse Skegg, "beard," and x, "ax") refers to various axes used as early as the sixth century A.D. as both tools and weapons. Viking-age Scandinavians most commonly associated the axe with their culture. The production of axes, in general, involved either local craftsmanship or importation from the Frankish Empire. Occasionally, they would embellish the axe blades using pattern welding techniques, creating intricate designs. Moreover, they adorned the hilt of the axe with precious stones, adding a touch of luxury and sophistication.
Warriors typically wielded an ax that they could throw or swing with crushing force. One well-known example of a battle axe optimized for throwing and melee combat is the Mammen Axe. The head of the axe consisted mainly of wrought iron, with a steel cutting edge. During the early part of the Viking era, the typical length of the cutting edge was 7–15 centimeters (3-6 inches), whereas later on, axes grew considerably larger. Brei-x (broad axes) had crescent-shaped edges measuring between 9 and 18 inches (22 to 45 cm) in length. The longest cutting edge on the largest axe head depicted on the right measures 22 centimeters (9 inches) in length.
This Drakka Viking ax will make a commanding addition to your home or office. It will immediately attract the attention of your guests if placed in a corner.
